Massage during the months of Pregnancy can reduce stress, anxiety, decrease symptoms of depression, relieve muscle aches, joint pains, improve labor and the overall health of mom and baby.
The session will begin with an evaluation of your health and pregnancy thus far, a thorough intake of questions and concerns from the patient and from myself.
Prenatal Sessions will 1st begin with the mother lying on her back with a bolster under the knees and if more comfortable for mother, a folded towel under the right hip to help with blood flow. Side lying position is utilized to improve comfort for mother and baby. In this position a body pillow or an assortment of pillows will be provided to assist the side lying position. Cushions will be placed between the legs, propped under the belly for baby comfort and a neck and shoulder pillow to keep the shoulders squared and mother’s neck comfortable.
Side Lying Position allows for better access to the low back and the gluteal and hip rotator muscles that tend to tighten during pregnancy and may cause cases of sciatica and discomfort during the pregnancy months.
This may be your first massage after you have brought the love of your life into the world! It is extremely important that you not forget to take care of yourself. Postnatal massage may feel different especially after long months of not being used to laying on your belly!
Water intake will be very important prior to your session. Massage can be detoxifying and can have a dehydrating affect, especially since you may be pumping your fluids to your new little.
You are more than welcome to be accompanied by your newborn at your first massage, even some after, or, if leaving baby at home with dad is what is holding you back, don’t let it! Bring in the Car seat and blanket and you may even hold your baby while you receive your massage. Massage is good for your baby too, when your calm, it helps your baby calm! I highly suggest pumping your breasts or feeding prior to this session as well.
